Ingredients
For Donuts:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp instant yeast
- ½ tsp salt
- ¾ cup warm milk
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp butter (softened)
- Oil for frying
For Custard Filling:
- 2 cups milk
- ½ cup sugar
- 3 egg yolks
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp butter
For Topping:
- ½ cup granulated sugar (for caramelizing)
Instructions
1. Prepare Dough:
- In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- Add warm milk, egg, and butter.
- Knead until soft dough forms.
- Cover and let rise for 1–1.5 hours until doubled.
2. Shape & Fry:
- Roll dough and cut into donut shapes.
- Let them rest for 15–20 minutes.
- Fry in hot oil until golden brown.
- Cool completely.
3. Make Custard:
- Heat milk in a pan.
- In another bowl, whisk egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch.
- Slowly add warm milk to mixture, then cook until thick.
- Add vanilla and butter. Cool.
4. Fill Donuts:
- Pipe custard into each donut using a piping bag.
5. Caramelize Top:
- Sprinkle sugar on top of donuts.
- Use a torch or pan heat to caramelize until crisp.
