Rustic Apple Pie Recipe Ingredients (for 6 people)
For the pie:
1 sheet puff pastry (ready to use)
4 apples (sweet varieties like Golden Delicious apples, Gala apples, or Pink Lady apples)
30 g sugar
1 egg yolk (for brushing)
Optional (but recommended for extra flavor):
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla sugar or extract
1 tbsp butter (cut into small cubes)
1 tbsp apricot jam (for glaze) Instructions
- Prep the apples
Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges.
Place them in a bowl and mix with sugar (and cinnamon/vanilla if using). - Prepare the pastry
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
Roll out the puff pastry onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. - Assemble the rustic pie
Arrange the apple slices in the center of the pastry, leaving about 3–4 cm border around the edges.
Fold the edges inward over the apples (it doesn’t need to be perfect—that’s the rustic look!).
Dot with small cubes of butter if using. - Add the golden finish
Brush the edges of the pastry with egg yolk for a beautiful golden color. - Bake
Bake for 30–35 minutes, until the crust is golden and the apples are tender. - Optional glaze
Warm the apricot jam slightly and brush it over the apples after baking for a glossy finish.Serving Tips
