Christmas bombs

Ingredients:

  • 1 jar (half-dozen) maraschino cherries with stems
  • 1 cup white candy melts or white chocolate chips
  • 1/3 cup crushed peppermint candy

Preparation:

  1. Prepare the Cherries: Drain the maraschino cherries and pat them thoroughly dry with paper towels. Ensuring they are dry helps the chocolate adhere better.
  2. Melt the White Chocolate: Place the white chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and melt it in 15- to 20-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth and fully melted. Be careful not to overheat, as white chocolate can scorch easily.
  3. Dip the Cherries: Holding by the stem, dip each cherry into the melted chocolate until about three-quarters is covered.
  4. Add Peppermint Coating: Quickly roll or sprinkle the chocolate-coated cherries with crushed peppermint candy before the chocolate sets.
  5. Set the Cherry Bombs: Arrange the dipped cherries on a parchment or wax paper-lined baking sheet.
  6. Chill: Refrigerate for 10–15 minutes, or until the chocolate is firm.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Place the cherry bombs on a decorative platter and savor the festive flavors!

Variations:

  • Chocolate Options: Swap white chocolate for milk or dark chocolate, or combine chocolates for a marbled effect.
  • Flavor Boost: Add a few drops of peppermint extract to the melted chocolate for extra minty flair.
  • Alternative Toppings: Try crushed nuts, sprinkles, or a drizzle of caramel or contrasting chocolate for added texture and flavor.

Tips:

  • Dry Thoroughly: Ensure cherries are completely dry before dipping to help the chocolate stick.
  • Quick Chill: For faster setting, place the dipped cherries in the freezer for a few minutes instead of the fridge.
  • Festive Touch: Decorate with colored sprinkles, edible glitter, or festive candy decorations to enhance the holiday vibe.

Enjoy creating and sharing these delightful treats!
