Traditional Cream Cheese Cake Recipe

Ingredients

For the Cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • A pinch of salt
  • 2 eggs, at room temperature
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil

  • 8 ounces softened cream cheese

For the Icing:

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon milk (or more, as needed)

Directions

1. Preheat the Oven:

  • Set the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.

2. Prepare the Dry Ingredients:

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

3. Mix the Wet Ingredients:

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, vegetable oil, sour cream, vanilla extract, and softened cream cheese until smooth and well blended.

4. Combine the Ingredients:

  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

5. Bake the Cake:

  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

6. Cool the Cake:

  • Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool completely before frosting.

For the Icing:

1. Cream the Base:

  • In a bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth.

2. Add the Sugar and Vanilla:

  • Gradually mix in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until the frosting is smooth and fluffy.

3. Adjust Consistency:

  • If needed, add milk a little at a time until the desired consistency is reached.

4. Frost the Cake:

  • Spread the icing evenly over the cooled cake.

5. Slice and Enjoy:
