Ingredients
- For the shrimp:
- 1 lb (450 g) shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 tsp Old Bay seasoning
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- For the honey butter sauce:
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp honey
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tbsp lemon juice (optional, for added zest)
- Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
Construction
- Prep the Shrimp:
- Rinse and pat the shrimp dry.
- Toss shrimp with Old Bay seasoning to coat evenly.
- Cook the Shrimp:
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add shrimp and cook for 2–3 minutes per side, until pink and opaque.
- Remove shrimp and set aside.
- Make the Honey Butter Sauce:
- In the same skillet, melt the butter over low heat.
- Stir in the honey, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes (if using). Simmer for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
- Combine:
- Return shrimp to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce.
- Cook for 1–2 minutes to allow the shrimp to absorb the flavors.
- Serve:
- Garnish with fresh parsley, lemon wedges, or extra Old Bay seasoning.
- Pair with rice, pasta, crusty bread, or a side of veggies.
Variations
- Citrus Twist: Add orange or lime zest for a fruity tang.
- Spicy: Increase red pepper flakes or add a splash of hot sauce.
- Herbed: Toss in fresh thyme, dill, or chives.
- Cajun: Swap Old Bay for Cajun seasoning for a different flavor profile.
- Grilled Shrimp: Instead of pan-frying, grill the shrimp and drizzle with the honey butter sauce before serving.
Tips
- Shrimp Selection: Use fresh or thawed frozen shrimp for the best texture. Large or jumbo shrimp work best.
- Timing: Avoid overcooking shrimp; they turn rubbery when overdone.
- Sauce Thickness: For a thicker sauce, simmer for a few extra minutes or add a touch of cornstarch slurry.
- Serving Suggestions: Serve immediately to enjoy the best flavor and texture.
