Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak

Rich, savory, and pure comfort — with barely any effort.

This is one of those classic, cozy dinners that tastes like it simmered all day… because it did. Tender beef patties soak up a deep onion gravy while the slow cooker does all the work.

Perfect for busy weekdays or when you just want something hearty and nostalgic.

🛒 Ingredients

  • 2 lbs lean ground beef
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 (1 oz) packet onion soup mix
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour (for dredging)
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 white onion, sliced
  • 2 (10 oz) cans condensed cream of chicken soup
  • ¾ cup water
  • 1 (1 oz) packet au jus mix

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Make the Patties

In a large bowl combine:

  • Ground beef
  • Breadcrumbs
  • Milk
  • Onion soup mix
  • Dried thyme

Mix just until combined (don’t overwork the meat).
Shape into 8 evenly sized patties.

2️⃣ Prepare the Slow Cooker

Spread sliced onions across the bottom of the slow cooker.
This creates flavor and prevents sticking.

3️⃣ Brown the Patties

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.

Lightly dredge patties in flour (shake off excess).
Brown on both sides, about 2–3 minutes per side.

You’re not cooking them through — just building flavor.

4️⃣ Layer & Sauce

Place browned patties on top of onions in the slow cooker, stacking slightly if needed.

In a bowl, whisk together:

  • Cream of chicken soup
  • Water
  • Au jus packet

Pour evenly over patties.

5️⃣ Slow Cook

Cover and cook:

  • Low: 4–5 hours
  • Or until beef is fully cooked and tender

The gravy will thicken and soak into the patties beautifully.

🍽️ Best Served With

  • Creamy mashed potatoes
  • Buttered egg noodles
  • Steamed green beans
  • Rice
  • Crusty bread for gravy dipping

✨ Extra Flavor Options
