Spinach Feta Stuffed Crescents
A delicious appetizer or snack made with buttery crescent dough, creamy feta, and fresh spinach. Here’s everything you need to make and customize them:
Ingredients
Filling:
- Fresh spinach: 2 cups, chopped
- Feta cheese: 1 cup, crumbled
- Cream cheese: 2-3 tablespoons (optional, for extra creaminess)
- Garlic: 1-2 cloves, minced
- Onion: ¼ cup, finely diced or sautéed (optional)
- Dill: 1 teaspoon, chopped (fresh or dried)
- Salt & pepper: To taste
Dough:
- Crescent roll dough: 1 can (8 rolls)
Optional Toppings:
- Egg wash: 1 egg, beaten (for golden tops)
- Sesame seeds or poppy seeds: For garnish
Construction
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Prepare filling: In a bowl, mix chopped spinach, feta, garlic, cream cheese (if using), onion, and seasonings until well combined.
- Shape crescents: Open the crescent roll dough and separate it into triangles.
- Add filling: Place about 1 tablespoon of the spinach-feta mixture on the wide end of each triangle.
- Roll & seal: Roll each triangle from the wide end to the narrow tip, tucking the filling as you go. Pinch the edges to seal if needed.
- Optional: Brush each crescent with egg wash and sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds.
- Bake: Place crescents on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
Variations
- Protein addition: Add cooked, crumbled sausage, shredded chicken, or diced ham to the filling.
- Cheese swap: Substitute feta with goat cheese, ricotta, or shredded mozzarella.
- Vegetable mix-ins: Add sun-dried tomatoes, mushrooms, or artichokes to the filling for more flavor.
- Dough alternative: Use puff pastry or phyllo dough for a flakier texture.
- Herb flavors: Experiment with parsley, mint, or oregano in place of dill.
Tips
- Drain spinach: If using frozen spinach, thaw and squeeze out excess water to avoid soggy crescents.
- Prevent leaks: Don’t overfill the crescents, and ensure edges are sealed.
- Prep ahead: Assemble crescents and refrigerate for up to 1 day before baking.
- Serve fresh: Best served warm, but can be reheated in the oven or air fryer.
- Make mini versions: Cut crescent triangles smaller for bite-sized appetizers.
